At this time a letter from Australia to UK (or vice versa) took 4 to 6 weeks to arrive!
Meeting friendly new people but feeling homesick for family, Living in Boarding House in Neutral Bay. Working in city for Booth & Co with kangaroo skins., Tennis, music, bridge, etc.
From 9 to 23 September 1923 Bertie and a colleague went north by train to retrieve a company lorry stranded in Glen Innes, northern NSW. They drove south, around 600 miles along bad dirt roads often through bush country in a badly behaved lorry which they nicknamed "the goat".
